Flowers are quintessentially associated with the wedding day, so this personalised design of a wedding flowers oval planter, our signature piece, is a must for that special gift.
The wedding flowers included in this design are traditional white roses and white Hydrangeas. Historically the White Rose symbolised innocence and purity and that is how it became associated with weddings. However, back in the 14th century the white rose was the heraldic sign of the Duke of York. Hydrangeas come in all kinds of colours from blues and pinks to the white with their small flowers really close to each other, symbolising a united family and “tolerance”.
The name of the couple is added to both the back and the front of the outside of the piece whilst the words “The marriage of…” and the venue are added to the inside base of the planter.
The piece is finished with a hand-painted metallic gold rim and an optional personalised message may also be added to the base of the china.
The custom of wedding bouquets and wedding flowers has its origin in ancient times where women carried aromatic bunches of garlic, herbs and spices to ward off evil spirits. Traditional Celtic bouquets included ivy, thistle and heather. When Queen Victoria married Prince Albert, the herbs and spices had been replaced by fresh flowers, especially marigolds. Edible flowers were still included in the bouquet. The bride would carry her arrangement as she walked down the aisle. The dill from the bride’s bouquet (also known as the herb of lust), was consumed by the bride, the groom, and their wedding guests during the reception, as the herb was meant to increase sexual desire!
Susan has always been keen on Flora and Fauna and her garden is a constant inspiration to her in this capacity. We have also written a blog on Floriography and you may also be interested to learn a little more about the language of flowers so do take a look at this link to more information regarding the meaning of flowers.

All our china is hand-made and hand-decorated by one of our skilled china makers in the Longton district of Stoke-on-Trent – a region that has a long tradition of bone china production. It is one of the most difficult pieces for the china makers to produce due to the large single flat surface area. We at Susan Rose China are proud to support British manufacturing at its finest.
Each item comes gift wrapped in a beautiful cream presentation box.
