Compared to Sir Ernest Shackleton , Frank Wild is a relatively unknown giant of polar exploration.
He participated in 5 expeditions to Antartica and is a holder of the Polar Medal with 4 bars ( one of only 2 people )
He was Shackleton’s second in command on the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition in 1914 and remained on Elephant Island for four months while Shackleton went for help.
The mug is decorated with an image of H.M.S. Endurance taken from one of Susan’s original drawings and his quote ‘Once you have been to the white unknown you can never escape the call of the little voices.’
