This Floral inspired Cake Plate was designed by Susan to act as a centrepiece not just for those special occasions – such as christenings, weddings, anniversaries – but also to be enjoyed as part of the afternoon tea ritual perhaps to show off a traditional Victoria sponge sandwich cake on a lovely summer’s afternoon accompanied by a refreshing cup of afternoon tea!
This floral design was originally inspired by the garden at The Mill celebrating some of Susan’s favourite plants and originally designed to celebrate the birth of Susan’s godchild. This particular piece is an extension of this beautiful flower design which can be found in our children’s range The design includes Violets, Dog Rose, Daisies, Honeysuckle and Wild Pansies or Violas and you can learn a little more about the meaning of flowers by clicking on this link to The Old Farmer’s Almanac
We also have other Cake Plates available to purchase from our website; choose from the Vintage Heart Design or the new Wedding Flowers design which can both be seen on our wedding pages to those featured on our polar page showing the fun penguin and polar bear designs.
These traditional English bone china cake plates are one of the most difficult pieces for the china makers to produce due to the large single flat surface area. You can learn a little more about the History of China making in Stoke-on-Trent by clicking on this link to the Gladstone Museum.
The piece is finished with a hand-painted metallic gold rim and an optional personalised message may be added to the base of the china if required.
This traditional plate is hand-made and hand-decorated by one of our skilled china makers in the Longton district of Stoke-on-Trent – a region that has a long tradition of bone china production. We at Susan Rose China are proud to support British manufacturing at its finest.
